The different types of loads encountered by an AC Generator can be broadly classified as

a) Linear Loads
b) Motor Loads (part of linear loads, considered separately)
c) Non-linear loads.

1) Linear Loads are characterized by

8 Constant load impedance regardless of applied voltage.
8 The load current increases proportionally as the voltage increases and decreases as the voltage decreases.

Examples of linear loads are motor, incandescent lighting and heating loads.
